Rails to Romance - a film from about 1946 about the PGE made by the BC government

Till the early 1950s the PGE (BC Rail) only went from Squamish to Quesnel. PGE was owned by the government and generally neglected until WAC Bennett was elected in 1952. He completed the line to North Vancouver and Prince George by the mid 1950s I have to admit this is strange film because I have no real idea who they are trying to appeal to. It is a tourism film, sort of, but it spends much of the film extolling the industries along the PGE route. I am not sure who that was intended to attract The ship used to Squamish from Vancouver is the Lady Alexandra https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lady_Al... 1:03 to 2:30 segment on Bowen Island 2:45 arrival in Squamish 3:29 Boarding and loading the train in Squamish 5:03 Cheekamus Canyon 6:00 Rainbow/Alta Lake - the current day Whistler 7:40 Birkenhead river 7:55 Pemberton Meadows 8:23 D'Arcy and Anderson Lake 8:45 Seton Lake 9:12 Lillooet 10:57 Fraser near Fountain\ 11:10 Diamond S ranch 11:31 Clinton 12:05 Chasm 12:13 100 Mile House 12:28 Cannon Lake 12:53 Lac La Hache 12:59 William's Lake 15:00 Deep Creek Bridge 15:25 Quesnel 16:33 Wells 16:42 Barkerville 17:08 about the running of the PGE 18:28 pulpwood being dumped at Squamish Original film from the Royal BC Museum Record: F1986:28/012.01 - 012.02 Materials: 16mm colour film Date: ca. 1945 - 1947    • Rails to Romance
