Before you begin installing the rainwater diverter, carefully select the location for your rain barrel: The ground should be firm and load-bearing so that it doesn't soften and give way even during prolonged rain. A location that isn't too sunny but is sheltered from the wind is also advantageous. Then, mark the section of the downpipe that you will need to cut out for the rainwater diverter.
