Is 80/20 the new 60/40 for retirees?
A 60/40 portfolio – 60% stocks and 40% bonds – is the conventional starting point for retirees looking to balance risk and return. Yet financial markets and the global economy have changed a lot since it was popularized in the 1980s. Is the traditional wisdom of the 60/40 now outdated? In this episode, Veronika Popova from Vanguard discusses why some of the assumptions underpinning the 60/40 portfolio may be less relevant for retirees today and some of the key factors they should consider when building their retirement portfolio. She also explains why an 80/20 portfolio may be more appropriate for retirees looking to maximize their retirement income and leave a legacy for their heirs. Plus, Veronika takes viewer questions about investing for retirement in our live Q&A session.
