Nancy Nápoles niega haber planeado su secuestro y relata cómo escapó

Nancy Nápoles, the mayor of Tenancingo, gave her version of events and rejected the accusations from the State of Mexico Attorney General's Office that she staged her own kidnapping. The official stated that on May 31, she was abducted upon arriving at her home after three armed men forced her out of her sister's vehicle and into another car. According to her account, her captors demanded 40 million pesos and held her for approximately an hour. Napoles explained that, upon realizing she was neither blindfolded nor tied up, she understood she could use the situation to buy time. She said she spoke with the kidnappers, explained that she did not have access to that amount of money, and took advantage of a moment of inattention to escape through a dirt road and seek help at a nearby house. She also responded to the criticisms regarding her behavior during the kidnapping, stating that a psychologist explained to her that there are different defense mechanisms in extreme situations. In her case, she said she reacted by remaining calm and using all her senses to find a way out.
