«Leer a los clásicos» (V), Carlos García Gual

No one doubts the beauty or immense richness that the classics offer us, those marvelous works that have taught and inspired hundreds of generations throughout the centuries. Some first existed in manuscript form, and their copying by scribes prevented their loss; later, they were transmitted in printed texts to a population that, for the most part, was illiterate, and yet, they were read (and heard). Today, reading is accessible to everyone, and we have the technical means to transmit information to the entire global village. The classics are a goldmine of entertainment and learning, and reading them also provides us with indispensable cultural references. The Institución Libre de Enseñanza (Free Institution of Teaching) organizes these conferences with leading specialists in order to continue disseminating, as it has done since its inception, this rich cultural heritage of humanity represented by our classics, so that they may continue to enrich our thinking and imagination. • In collaboration with: Ministry of Culture and Sport, Sierra Pambley Foundation, and Residencia de Estudiantes (Student Residence).
