Erkan Baş Announces International Anti-Imperialist Peace Summit: ‘NATO is counter-guerrilla, we will not leave this country to these barbarians!’ Erkan Baş, the leader of the Turkish Workers' Party (TİP), announced at his weekly press conference in the Parliament that they will organize an International Anti-Imperialist Peace Summit in opposition to the NATO Summit to be held in Ankara. He stated, “Our comrades fighting against NATO, against Israeli aggression, against fascism, against imperialism, are coming from all over the world. We will not leave this country to these barbarians.” Erkan Baş, the leader of TİP, made assessments on current issues at his weekly press conference in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM). He devoted a large part of his speech to the NATO Summit to be held in Ankara on July 7-8, also touching upon the New Judicial Package and the resistance of the Temel Conta workers. Greeting comedian Deniz Göktaş, against whom an investigation has been launched by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, Baş also announced that he will be in front of the Madımak Hotel tomorrow for the anniversary of the Sivas Massacre. In his speech, Baş harshly criticized the tarpaulin applications made in Ankara as part of the ongoing "preparations" for the NATO Summit, saying, "They have put tarpaulins over the country so that the truth is not seen. We spend our lives in the places they are ashamed to show, our children spend 24 hours a day in those houses!" Stating that the NATO Summit is a meeting where not a single decision will be made for the good of the country, the world, or humanity, Baş said, "After Korea, they infiltrated the capillaries of this country with the lie that 'communism is coming.' NATO is counter-guerrilla. NATO organized the political coup in this country on September 12, 1980. NATO organized the Anti-Communist Associations."
