It is an auxiliary cooling system that is used, above all, for combustion engines. It is additional to the mechanical pump to guarantee the cooling of the electric motor and the inverter that the electric and hybrid vehicles carry. It is used for example to cool the turbo, in vehicles with a start & stop system for stopping and automatic engine start. It also has other functionalities related to temperature management such as air conditioning, for high voltage batteries or if you want a differentiated thermal management in various parts of the engine.
