We Almost Fell Through the Glacier | Extreme Hiking in Tajikistan

Spring in Tajikistan is one of the most beautiful seasons — everything is green, full of flowers, fresh air everywhere. But at the same time, water levels are much higher than usual this year. The river is literally flowing everywhere. --- MAIN CHALLENGE — GLACIERS The glaciers have not melted yet. About 1–2 km of the route had to be crossed over snow and ice. But this is not stable snow — it’s melting from inside, with water flowing underneath. This makes it dangerous. You can break through or step into a hidden stream under the ice. We moved carefully along the edges, avoiding active water flow areas. Constantly searching for a safe path. --- RIVER CROSSINGS After midday, water levels increased even more (melting + light rain). We had around 6 river crossings. In some places it was a strong mountain current, not just a small stream. We had to change into aqua shoes and cross very carefully. --- BLACK WATERFALL We were not able to reach the waterfall directly. It is completely blocked by glaciers right now. We decided not to take unnecessary risks. Instead, we found an alternative route and climbed above it. The view from above is powerful. --- HIKE STATS: Distance: 10.5 km Elevation gain: 808 m Max altitude: 2262 m Moving time: 3:18 Total time: 9+ hours --- IMPORTANT: At the moment, this route is NOT for beginners. Only for experienced hikers.
