Sorata, La Paz - One of Bolivia's Best-Kept Gems

Best known for hiking, especially among outdoor enthusiasts, Sorata is one of Bolivia's best-kept gems. It's also home to Gruta de San Pedro, a beautiful cavern that can be explored on foot and by boat. Visitors should not miss Take Kala, either, where they can enjoy a marvellous view of the Sorata town and its surrounding Andean mountains. There's also Puente Colgante Sorata, a hanging bridge that offers an excellent view of the San Cristobal River. Sorata is also where you can find some of the best organic ingredients in Bolivia. Many of the fruits and vegetables in La Paz came from Sorata. If you live in Bolivia, take the opportunity to shop for local produce here, like their avocados, which come in different varieties. If you're looking to unwind in nature and escape the big cities for a while, consider heading down to Altai Oasis Lodge, a beautiful resort in Sorata, just about 15 minutes by mototaxi from town. I spent 3 nights there and enjoyed my time there. The place was lovely, and the owner and staff were kind and hospitable. Moreover, I absolutely adored their dogs. Indeed, Sorata has more than hiking adventures to offer. It's a place to take a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday city life, explore nature, and enjoy heartwarming local food. The Sajta Sorateño I had was so good. I believe it's my favourite Bolivian food. You can try it at La Llajuita Sorateña. This restaurant is popular amongst the locals. The service was good during my visit. I highly recommend it. Don't forget to visit the Sorata market, where you can find local delights such as corn de maiz (corn bread) and Api Sorateño. Note that Api Sorateño is slightly different from the regular Api. I prefer Api Sorateño to the regular Api. Travel tips: Bring extra cash for souvenirs when visiting Take Kala. You can purchase local drinks and souvenirs there. Also, be careful with taxi rates. Most taxis may agree on a price for a return journey and at least an hour of waiting. They might charge you more if you're late. Some drivers are more flexible and won't charge you for a little more waiting time. Did you find this video useful?
