200 Bewerbungen – und trotzdem kein Job | Report 07.07.2026

Unemployment figures rose again in June – for the 39th consecutive month. This negative trend has now continued for over three years. Currently, nearly 370,000 people in Austria are without a job. Finding employment is particularly difficult in Vienna, as 55-year-old marketing expert Diana Ines Schmidberger knows all too well. She has already sent out 200 applications. However, neither her university degree nor her experience in management positions has helped her land a new job. Unemployment remains highest among those with only compulsory education. At the same time, fewer and fewer companies are training apprentices, making it increasingly difficult for young people, especially in eastern Austria, to find an apprenticeship at all. Sophie-Kristin Hausberger and Miriam Ressi investigate what is needed for the labor market to recover. You can find more of the report at https://on.orf.at
