SÍNDROME DE OVARIO POLIQUÍSTICO (SOP o PCOS)-FISIOPATOLOGíA- By MEDtitis

This video aims to explain the physiology and pathophysiology behind polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), also called Stein-Leventhal syndrome. PCOS is a complex and heterogeneous endocrine disorder characterized by menstrual cycle irregularities, hyperandrogenism, and ovaries with multiple cysts. It is one of the most common hormonal imbalances, affecting between 6% and 20% of women of reproductive age, depending on the diagnostic criteria used. Its etiology is unknown; however, there is strong evidence that genetic factors play a significant role in its development. Polycystic ovary syndrome is considered one of the leading causes of female subfertility and the most common endocrine problem in women of reproductive age. The severity of symptoms varies from patient to patient. Diagnosis should rule out congenital adrenal hyperplasia, androgen-secreting tumors, and hyperprolactinemia. Patients present with: oligo-ovulation or anovulation, resulting in irregular menstruation or amenorrhea, infertility linked to ovulation disorders, and the presence of polycystic ovaries; excess androgenic activity (i.e., masculinizing hormones), which can cause acne and hirsutism; and insulin resistance, generally associated with obesity, type II diabetes, and hypercholesterolemia. The menstrual cycle comprises a series of regular changes that naturally occur in the female reproductive system (especially in the uterus and ovaries) which make pregnancy possible or menstruation, should pregnancy not occur. During this cycle, the female gametes (eggs or oocytes) develop. The first day of menstruation marks the beginning of the cycle, which ends the day before the next menstruation. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Follow us on: Instagram: @medtitis   / medtitis   Facebook: MEDtitis   / medtitis   ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you want to join the project and collaborate with ideas or anything else to help us make more videos like this one, write to: [email protected] If you want to be part of this project, collaborate with ideas, or anything else to support us in making more videos like this one, please write an email to: [email protected] What is MEDtitis?
