RUTA GRAVEL LLANADA ALAVESA | Javier Bañón Izu
Hello gravel riders, I'd like to share with you my recent visit to the city of Vitoria-Gasteiz, where I was able to ride its fascinating network of paths, trails, and trails that connect the capital internally and with suburban parks, forests, farmland, and countless other interesting places to enjoy on our gravel bikes. Álava is nature in its purest form, dotted with heritage, art, culture, and gastronomy. And it's the region with the most protected natural areas in the Basque Country. Its capital, Vitoria-Gasteiz, was declared the 'Green Capital' a decade ago, a testament to its track record in sustainable mobility, its urban design committed to green areas, and the recovery of what we now know as the Green Belt... but also to its policy of citizen-friendly services, its commitment to sustainable tourism, the circular economy, and, ultimately, to sport and health... This perfect location is the starting point for the great route of the Álava plains, which departs signposted from the Ataria Nature Interpretation Center, its kilometer 0 mark right in the heart of the Green Belt and stands out for its circular route, covering a distance of 117 kilometers. The route is fairly flat throughout, accumulating 815 meters of elevation gain and marked clockwise, although it can also be done clockwise, as was our case to avoid the morning fog caused by the large body of water from the Ullibarri Gamboa reservoir, located in the northern part of the route. The route also takes us along iconic paths such as the route of the old Basque-Navarre Railway, the Camino Real de las Postas, and the inland Camino de Santiago. All punctuated by Romanesque art, megalithic monuments, and fortress towns steeped in history, this route is perfect for gravel enthusiasts, thanks to a network of well-designed and maintained paths, trails, and trails. Welcome to Vitoria-Gasteiz, welcome to the Llanada Alavesa. @TurismoEuskadi -GPS: For those who want to do the route, I've provided a link to the route on my komoot profile: https://www.komoot.es/tour/961946847?... -MAPS and INFO: https://turismo.euskadi.eus/contenido...
