Two Flawed People: A 500 Days of Summer Video Essay Exploring it's DOOMED RELATIONSHIP

I'm Celebrating Valentine's Day by Studying a DOOMED RELATIONSHIP, the one involving our protagonist of 500 Days of Summer Tom and his love interest and titular character Summer played by Joseph Gordon Levitt and Zooey Deschanel respectively. The 2009 film explores an arguably romantic relationship between two young adults and how they both effect each other in the long run - more so on Tom's side as it's all told from his perspective. Throughout the run time we jump back and fourth in the timeline of their relationship that spanned over 500 days (to simplify; really their relationship was shorter than this but the "500 Days" is really reflective of when Tom has feelings for her pre and post relationship) and we see how a relationship can evolve as it builds up and deconstructs for various reasons. This is a clever film that delves deep into one's insecurity, showing the immaturity of it's characters in certain ways as well as being a film that highlights a true to life depiction of what love and romance really looks like, as well as heartbreak. To me 500 Days of Summer is all things that indie cinema can be; It's comedic and light, it's relatable, it's complicated, it's morally grey and it's got some bangers on the soundtrack (this is a suuuuuper hipster film but that's ok!) And so yeah as I said since Valentine's Day is headed our way in a sec I thought I'd cover a film like this for the occasion - especially since this was my favorite movie of all time for a good number of years during my teenage era. When I was 15 this was everything cinematic and more - And while I still love it, it was interesting watching it now with fresh eyes all these years later and how my opinions have changed in certain ways. Whereas back then I was more or less straight up on Tom's side all the way - This time watching I felt more like the middle man watching as a passive observer and finding that I really thought they were both right and wrong in certain ways. No one is the villain here; It's just two people who tried to do something and it didn't quite work out, chalk it up to bad timing or it just not being right for whatever reason. And I think that's an admirable perspective for a film to take; It's kind of really "un-cinematic" which is a cool deconstruction of the romantic-comedy genre as we know it. And as I type this I realize I'm really just re-iterating what I get on to talking about in the video so if you want to hear more; Well, I mean watch it duh. 🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬 The essential social media accounts that you can find me on; • Instagram: instagram.com/letscrashthisparade/ • Twitter:   / jackfitztrick   • Letterboxd: https://letterboxd.com/JackFitzpatric... • Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/letscrashthi... 🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬 Music Credits; • Intro Music: "Teenage (Epic Punk Rock Instrumental)" by Right Beat Radio -    • Teenage (Epic Punk Rock Instrumental)   • Outro Music: "Pop Punk Instrumental (July 2013 - Nathan Keightley) - FREE TO USE!" by Nathan Keightley -    • Pop Punk Instrumental (July 2013 - Nathan ...   🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬 My name's Jack Fitzpatrick @LetsCrashThisParade, I'm a 20-something-year-old guy who just loves to dabble in creativity. Film is an art form, one of which that I love to give my opinion on. But really, in a less a douchey way of explaining who I am; I'm a self-made and described film critic who strives for authenticity and professional level editing... I'm also someone who focuses on critiquing on an emotional level; I like story. I like characters, so I think you'll find that while I might not give a movie a bad name based on poor lighting or it's score or more technical details like that, I'll defintely tell you what I thought about it's logic and writing;... Though, I sometimes may have opinions on those extra details as well lol... I love, live and breathe movies and I'm here to talk about them.
