Boo Carter & Liona Lefau Bring SEC FIREPOWER, Coach Prime’s Colorado Defense REVAMPED in 2026

Boo Carter and Liona Lefau headline Coach Prime’s completely revamped Colorado football defense for the 2026 season. The Colorado football transfer portal added SEC-tested production from Tennessee, Texas and Vanderbilt, including Boo Carter, Liona Lefau and Randon Fontenette. Coach Prime also added former Notre Dame cornerback Cree Thomas, bringing more Power Four speed, length and versatility to Colorado’s defense. After allowing 425.7 total yards, 222.5 rushing yards and 30.5 points per game in 2025, Colorado football needed a complete defensive reset. Now the Buffaloes are betting on proven production, playoff experience, physicality and star power to establish a brand-new identity in 2026. Boo Carter brings the type of explosive versatility Colorado was missing last season. During his Tennessee career, Carter produced 63 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, three forced fumbles, three pass breakups and an interception. He can play in the slot, attack downhill, pressure quarterbacks, create turnovers and contribute as a dangerous return specialist. Liona Lefau gives Coach Prime an experienced linebacker who has already competed in major SEC games and the College Football Playoff. Lefau appeared in 42 games at Texas, became a multi-year starter and produced more than 130 career tackles. His experience, communication and physical tackling could make him one of the central pieces of Colorado’s reconstructed front seven. Randon Fontenette adds even more proven SEC production to the secondary. He started every game for Vanderbilt in 2025 and previously recorded 73 tackles, eight tackles for loss, eight pass breakups and a pick-six against Alabama during his breakout 2024 season.
