¿Qué debe hacer el Estado? | Martín Krause

Martín Krause explains that individuals have two ways of satisfying their needs: one through the market, where they acquire the goods or services they need, and another provided by the State, such as security, justice, protection of property rights, and others. Based on this premise, he notes that economic science is concerned with finding a scientific approach to define which needs each of these institutions can or should provide. He presents theories developed by various authors, including Adam Smith's invisible hand, Vilfredo Pareto's concept of optimum, which posits the need for an entity to correct market imperfections, Arthur Cecil Pigou's theory of externalities, and the proposals of Paul Anthony Samuelson and Ronald Coase regarding private and public goods. Finally, he discusses the economic analysis of policy, or Public Choice, associated with James Buchanan and other authors who contribute to determining the functions and shortcomings of the State in society.
