Jack Payne And His Band (1935)

Titles read: 'NOW PATHE PICTORIAL is taking you over to PARIS to see and hear JACK PAYNE and his BAND at the EMPIRE PARIS'. Paris, France. Band leader Jack Payne introduces the number in French saying they are going to play a modern orchestration of a classic jazz tune, 'Tiger Rag'. Payne turns round and starts conducting the band as they play a fast and furious version of 'Tiger Rag' on the stage of the Empire Paris. This is great for showing that British jazz / dance bands could really swing! All the musicians are dressed in light trousers and dark jackets - they look great. Great showmanship in the band as different members stand up when playing their solos or spots. Several of the band can hardly sit still during this rip-snorting number! Towards the end of the tune one band member does some acrobatic dancing and back flips in front of the other musicians. Note: this is one of the very best!
