Southern Slamdoor Sunset (Pt 2). The last 'scheduled' run. Class 421 4-CIG, 423 4-VEP slammers.
On Friday 19 August 2005, Southern ran their last scheduled slamdoor service. This was the 17:17 London Victoria to Seaford and Eastbourne comprising 4-CIG 1866, 4-VEPs 3535 and 3486. Correction - it seems the very last scheduled slamdoor service on Southern happened later the same day when one of the three units seen here ran its last service from Seaford to Brighton and then straight to Lovers Walk depot for withdrawal. While Southern DID run some more slam doors after this, they were specials or to cover shortages only. Went along to Three Bridges to catch the sight and sounds of these faithful old units on their last day in service.
