⚓ Diving the SS Yongala

The SS Yongala has been sitting on the ocean floor since 1911 after sinking in a powerful cyclone while travelling from Mackay to Townsville. Tragically, all 122 passengers and crew lost their lives, making this not just an incredible dive site, but also a gravesite. As awe-inspiring as this wreck is, it's important to remember you're visiting someone's final resting place. Dive with respect, admire from a distance, and leave nothing but bubbles. Now for the dive... wow. 🤯 It's easy to see why the SS Yongala is consistently ranked as one of the best wreck dives in the world. Over the last century, this ship has transformed into a bustling underwater city, absolutely teeming with marine life. Giant Queensland groupers, sea turtles, eagle rays, enormous schools of trevally and barracuda, sea snakes, and if you're lucky, even bull sharks. There's something incredibly humbling about drifting over a piece of history that's now giving life to so many other creatures. It's equal parts haunting, beautiful, and unforgettable. 🌊💙 📍Alva Beach, Queensland, AUSTRALIA
