Butler Island Plantation | Last Known Footage Before Fire | Historic Site

Hello Everyone, Today we are going to take a last look at the Houston House on the historic Butler Island Plantation in Darian Georgia. As you might know the House was completely destroyed by Fire in June 26, 2024 and since this was filmed in May, this could possibly be the last video footage taken before this tragedy took place. The Butler Plantation originated somewhere around the late 1700s remained in operation until the start of the Civil War. The Huston House as you see it today, is located on Butler Island, and was constructed in 1927 by Colonel T.L. Huston, a former co-owner of the New York Yankees. Butler Island, originally a rice plantation dating to the late 1700s, was converted to a dairy and lettuce farm by Col. Huston in the 20th century. After his death in 1938, the property was purchased by tobacco heir R. J. Reynolds, Jr. The site is currently owned by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. Unfortunately less that a month after filming this, tragedy struck the plantation! On June 26th 2024 a fire broke out in the Houston house completely destroying it. It is believed that a homeless person was staying in the home and accidentally set it on fire. Special thanks to @MinorcanMullet for the post fire footage and Halston Pitman/Nick Woolever/MotorSportMedia for the interior photos.
