The hare nymph is a very well-known nymph pattern rigged on a jig hook. It performs wonderfully in heavily pressured fishing spots, despite its simple structure. It has yielded me particularly many fish on the Dunajec and Raba rivers, including trout and smelt. I also use this type of nymph when fishing for ide and clan on lowland rivers, most often in spring. I usually rig this fly on hooks ranging from 14 to 10 mm with heads ranging from 3.5 mm to 4.5 mm, and tie it as a leading nymph. In heavier and larger versions, it works wonderfully for barbel and larger trout. As you can see, the nymph's design is very simple and versatile.
