La alegría de la Resurrección inunda las calles deCartagena en el día más grande de su Semana Santa

The mayor joins the ladies of the Santo Tomás brotherhood to carry the image on a day marked by joy and light. Cartagena awoke to the ringing of bells and the radiant white of the Royal and Illustrious Brotherhood of Our Father Jesus Resurrected, bringing light and hope back to the streets in the city's most joyful procession. The Resurrected Christ procession, which brings to a close a Holy Week declared of International Tourist Interest, stands out for its festive character, a departure from the mourning of the preceding days. The groups from the various brotherhoods, accompanied by the sound of bugles and drums and the scent of fresh flowers, parade through the historic center in an explosion of white. The mayor of Cartagena, Noelia Arroyo, along with the head of the brotherhood, Marién García Boj, attended the moments before the procession began, where the enthusiasm of the hundreds of participants who bring Holy Week to a close was palpable. This year, the mayor joined the women carrying the float of the Brotherhood of the Apparition of Jesus to Saint Thomas, a decision motivated by her deep family connection, "which comes from my grandparents, my father, and my godfather," the mayor explained. Arroyo also detailed a previous experience that shaped her understanding of Holy Week, as she had to "put her shoulder to the wheel" urgently during the Jubilee Grand Procession to shelter the image from the rain. "It was a turning point," Arroyo noted, adding that she wanted to repeat the experience herself, although "what is truly important is that Christ is resurrected and Cartagena celebrates it with immense joy," she affirmed. For her part, the head of the brotherhood, Marién García Boj, emphasized the significance of this Sunday for the city, calling it "the greatest day of all Holy Week because the light of Cartagena will shine through these doors to announce the resurrection of the Lord," García Boj stated. The leader of the brotherhood praised the mayor's gesture of actively participating in the procession, saying, "I hope she enjoys it immensely, because it's a new and very beautiful experience." After processing through the historic center on a spring-like day and with the brotherhood's return to the Church of Santa María de Gracia, Cartagena bids farewell to ten days of fervor, tradition, and heritage, already looking ahead to next year's preparations.
