RS013 Tech Support: MIDI Thru like a Boss

There comes a time in the life of every synth enthusiast‘s life when he (or she? Well Youtube Analytics shows my user base is 100% male and middle aged, so I guess ‚he‘ will do) simply runs out of MIDI ports to connect his toys. As many synths today come without a dedicated thru port and daisy-chaining too many synths via thru ports isn‘t a good idea anyway, you‘ll probably end up needing a MIDI or thru splitter. What those do and how to chose the right one for you is therefore the subject of this ‚slightly nerdy‘ video (As Götz from Berhringer would put it). Here‘s a link to a schematic of a very basic midi splitter (the video explains why you probably shouldn‘t use it though): http://getlofi.com/two-shows-this-wee... Here‘s a link to a proper MIDI thru circuit, it‘s scalable up to an whopping unlimited number of thru ports: http://m.bareille.free.fr/midithrubox... I used a very nice DIY kit from eBay that was cheap, came with all the parts and only needed some easy soldering, but unfortunately, it is no longer available to buy. I found this, slightly more expensive kit (still cheap for people shopping from the US): https://www.ebay.com/itm/MIDI-Thru-1-... 0:00 Warning 0:06 Introduction 0:50 USB!!! 1:36 Passive Splitters 2:16 Active Splitters 4:15 MIDI Mergers 4:56 Summary 5:16 Outro
