Building a Rustic Coat Rack
How to build a rustic coat rack out of lumber from the hardware store. Our old coat rack (that came with the house) finally died after hanging in there for 3 years. So in this video I show you how to build a rustic looking coat from a 1 by 6 that I bought at the local hardware store. Don't forget that I'm on a bit of a break until the middle of January. Materials: 1x6 (8' long) Linseed oil (to seal the wood) 8 Coat hooks About 20 1.25 inch screws About 8 long black screws (for screwing the coat rack to the wall) Tools: Blow torch (to burn the wood) Saw (to cut the wood) Wire brush Drill Jigsaw (optional, to cut the struts to shape) Router (optional, to edge the wood) Method: Cut the 1x6 into pieces: 2 pieces 42" long 2 pieces 5.5" long Cut the struts to shape (if you want) and route the edges (if you want) Burn the wood with a blow torch, enough to blacken the surface, but not to completely char the wood. Use the wire brush to brush off the burnt wood. Brush as much or as little as you want. Wipe the wood down with a damp cloth to get rid of dust Apply 2 coats of linseed oil to seal the wood Leave to dry overnight Pre-drill holes for the screws Screw the wood together Measuring about 2-3 inches up from the bottom of the back board, place your coat hooks about 5 inches apart, leaving 2 to 2.5 inches between the strut and the first hook. Mount your coat rack to the wall! We have swag! https://shop.nuweblarehomestead.com/ Nuwe Blare Homestead is a homestead in the Arizona desert.
