For Dad...

I was very hesitant to share this here…Honestly didn’t think I ever would. This piece is from my company show last spring… and it was the first time Ive ever created something so close to my heart. It really did a number on me mentally and emotionally and I remember crying to my mom about it…worried it wouldn’t be perfect enough. Perfect enough to capture all the love I hold for my dad and how much I miss him. I had multiple people come to me after seeing the show to tell me how this moved them… many who revealed that they too understood the loss of a father….which touched me so much. Everything in me was content with leaving this moment for those who saw it live in-person. I felt the online world didn’t deserve such a sensitive part of me…that people would just scroll past, that it would just be another dance post… when for me it was so so so so much more. But, recently one of my favorite Aussies, Lauren, shared a visual she created in honor of her dad, and she reminded me of a conversation we had about being a part of this special club of individuals who know what it’s like to lose a parent. It’s a pain that cant be explained….if you know, you just know. So, Im sharing. For the ones that know. For the ones that may need a reminder that someone else out there understands.
