We decided to completely renovate the bathroom in our 27-year-old caravan. Initially, we thought we'd keep the cassette toilet, but after a trial camping trip, we changed our minds. Since we discovered further problems with the bathroom (the work surface was too high and too small, and the tiles were crooked), we opted for a complete bathroom overhaul. A fresh start, redesigning everything from scratch. No plastic, a cozy feel, and our own composting toilet. In the end, it was more work than we anticipated. But we're more than happy with the result of our first ever caravan bathroom. All the plastic was removed; we built the sink, the work surface, and even the composting toilet ourselves. We only bought the insert and the lid. It wasn't easy to conceal all the pipes, as a lot of the shower tray had previously been hidden, including the wheel arch, which already takes up a third of the space. In the end, we got the most out of the roughly 100 x 70 cm space, using all our craftsmanship. We'll see how it performs in everyday camping use. ... Since May 2024, we have been traveling full-time with our two children through Europe in our 8m² caravan. After 14 months of traveling, we decided to part ways with our small caravan "Tonni" and completely renovate and refurbish a 27-year-old caravan. Was that a good idea?
