Nilhan Osmanoğlu, granddaughter of Sultan Abdülhamid II, was a guest on this week's program, Son 33, produced and hosted by Orhan Karaağaç. The conversation began with the question, "What does Nilhan Osmanoğlu do?" First and foremost, she said, "I'm a mother," adding that she has her own brands, a science and technology association, and other interests. When asked if she doesn't have free time, she replied, "How can a mother have free time?" Nilhan Osmanoğlu also mentioned a retail website, saying it was completely misunderstood and that they had to shut down its operations. She explained that they sold Anatolian products alongside their own, simply as intermediaries, and that those people continued their handicrafts. When asked about the frequent misunderstandings they face and the reasons for this, Nilhan Osmanoğlu explained that because they are Ottoman descendants, they are treated as a bridge and are exploited by those who want to criticize their ancestors. However, she said, "I have no intention of remaining silent; I will continue to speak my mind." Everyone reflects their intentions and what they have in their hearts. If their outlook and intentions are not good, no matter what we say, these things will still happen, she said. When asked how she interpreted the images of Kayıhan Osmanoğlu's reception that have come to light, Nilhan Osmanoğlu said, "I was there that day. They are images that appeared at an event held on the anniversary of Abdülhamid II's death. I was there that day. No one has any ill intentions. People are projecting their love for their ancestors onto us in that way. I occasionally warn them not to do it, but you can't shape people's love either." She said, "Those people are not ignorant. This is how conservatives are treated in this country. It's already a tradition in this country. It has nothing to do with us directly." Regarding her approach, Nilhan Osmanoğlu said, "I don't agitate. If they want to agitate, I can just tell them about the exile. There's no more pain than that." When asked if the surname "Osmanoğlu" is a special surname, she said, "No, anyone can take it. They changed our surname to avoid revealing our descent from the sultans." Those living abroad can still use their own surnames, he said. When asked if the Osmanoğlu family would enter politics, he said, "Everyone is doing their own thing. There's no single answer."
