What is the 'psycho biddy' genre?
Happy Halloween, biddies! Did you know there was once a trend of casting bygone starlets of Hollywood's golden age in exploitative horror films? Now you do! The 'psycho biddy', 'hagsploitation', 'hag horror', or 'grande dame guignol' film refers to a genre of horror/thriller films that took off after the success of the film What Ever Happened to Baby Jane. Films like Hush... Hush Sweet Charlotte, What's the Matter with Helen, and Whoever Slew Auntie Roo rounded out this highly variable subgenre that was tailor made to be rediscovered by gay audiences several years later. Hagsploitation subverts classic Hollywood 'women's films' and offers something much darker-- and MUCH campier. Psycho biddy title generator: https://twitter.com/jane_mulcahy/stat...
