One Verb That Destroyed a Mystic

This video examines how a significant linguistic error fundamentally altered the historical perception of Miguel de Molinos and the Quietist movement. It is argued that an incorrect translation of an archaic Spanish reflexive verb shifted the focus from divine self-activity to a misunderstood form of human passivity. By incorrectly rendering a prayer as a plea for Christ to receive the human soul rather than Himself, translators transformed a theology of ego-annihilation into a doctrine of moral indifference. This shift allowed critics to characterise Quietism as a rejection of responsibility, rather than an ontological surrender where the human will is replaced by the divine. Ultimately, it was suggested that Molinos was not a heretic of laziness, but a mystic who believed the spiritual peak involves the complete disappearance of the self. #christianmysticism #christianmystic #molinos
