About the Artiste: This is one of the earliest recordings of Malini Rajurkar. She is one of the most senior most vocalists of the Gwalior tradition. The lineage has continued from Ustad Nissar Hussein Khan through Shankar-Rao Pandit, Rajabhaiya Poochwale, Govindrao Rajurkar( Her Guru and uncle in law) to Malinibai. She also gives credit to her life partner Shri. Vasant rao Rajurkar who has been a great influence in grooming her musical career. Her singing reflects all the genuine facets of the Gwalior style. A sweet and seasoned voice, easy reach in all three octaves, flexibility and pliability of voice, clarity in taans, disciplined exposition of a Raag and aesthetic rendering are some of the highlights of her singing. She is perhaps the only one who has an equal command of different genres like Khayal, Tappa, Tarana, Trivat, and even Thumris. In spite of her vast repertoire and a great fund of knowledge , she remains a humble and unassuming woman. The peace and balance of her mind pervades through all her Mehfils and she leaves an indelible stamp on the minds of her listeners without resorting to any gimmicks.
