She then moved to Incheon to study and graduated from Inil Girls' High School. The author learned about the world in the city of Incheon, and as a result, more than half of the stories in her first collection, "Himalaya Bawichi," are set in Incheon. She entered the Department of Korean Literature at Sookmyung Women's University and nurtured her dream of becoming a writer. After transitioning from teaching Korean to full-time, she made her literary debut with "A Man on the Edge of a Cliff" winning the Halla Ilbo New Year's Literary Contest. Publisher's Review I believe this collection of short stories reveals aspects of the author's inner self that even he himself was unaware of. The gap between the first and second collections is not that wide, and the second, compared to the first, offers a certain unity in its focus. This is evident in the many works set in rural areas, the process by which wealth gained through development disintegrates families, and the focus on the decline of the older generation. Consequently, the virtues and customs of agricultural communities are depicted with a sense of nostalgia, and the yearning for lost things is presented as a form of redemption, a "long-awaited future." This collection centers on family stories, and the issue of the elderly is particularly prominent. However, the miserable reality of the elderly should be seen as a symbol of a broken ethics and morality. As we approach a hyper-aging society, the family has moved beyond the stage of caring for the elderly. This is because the author seems to deploy the elderly as a device to denounce the reality of families being torn apart by sibling feuds, or the despair of the generation of farming fathers who built their lives on the border between urban and rural areas as they grapple with the shameful conflicts of apartment development compensation. One of the author's key novelistic devices, which he never abandons, is the dream of romantic love. Even readers who already know romantic love is nothing more than a dream find themselves unwittingly drawn to the beautiful and sorrowful love he evokes. In this ruthless capitalist society, the tattered souls who have been betrayed countless times cannot resist the tearful love he evokes. What does this love mean to the author? Language for understanding and expressing life and actual reality always exist on different levels, and the gap is inevitable. Language capable of fully conveying the weight of reality is far too rare, and even language, even when found with difficulty, is not free from the fate of misunderstanding and misinterpretation.
