Found these tapes in a metal box behind a false wall during building restoration in New Orleans, 2022. The box was sealed with wire. Inside: ten reels, labeled only "Crescent Sound — Sept. 1959." What you're hearing is one night. One session. Nobody planned it. Nobody was ready for it. The man on these recordings walked into Crescent Sound Recording on Rampart Street sometime after midnight with nothing but anger and a beat-up electric guitar. The producer, Clarence Dubois, let him in. He didn't ask questions. He just hit record. By the time the sun came up, ten songs were on tape. The studio closed two years later.
