Right There, But Not Quite | iRacing Porsche GTE at Adelaide

Back in the iRacing GTE series, this time taking on the tight street circuit at Adelaide in the Porsche RSR. This race ended up being an 1857 Strength of Field, and I came in as the number 3 car. Qualifying went very well, and I managed to put the car 2nd on the grid. The number 2 car appeared to be having some connection issues, but I was still happy with the result. My first qualifying lap was strong, and I felt really good about it. Unfortunately, I got a little greedy on my second attempt and picked up an off-track in the first chicane. Looking back, I think there was a chance I could have challenged for pole if I had put that lap together. Even so, starting on the front row at a street circuit is never a bad place to be. The race got underway and I was able to stay with the number 1 car. In fact, I felt like I might have had a tiny pace advantage in some parts of the circuit. My plan was to try an undercut during the pit cycle and see if I could jump him that way rather than forcing the issue on track. The strategy almost worked. The problem was my timing. I came out of the pits directly behind two slower cars that were battling each other, and that traffic cost me at least three tenths of a second when every fraction mattered. Whether I would have made the undercut work with a cleaner exit is hard to say, because the leader did a good job covering off the strategy. I managed to clear the two slower cars over the next couple of laps and found myself right back on the tail of the leader. From there, the race became a question of execution. Could I find a way past? Would I spend the rest of the race staring at the back of his Porsche? Or would Adelaide's unforgiving walls claim another victim before the checkered flag?
