The second episode in Unpacking Our Stories explores the residency and work of Toshiko Takaezu (1922—2011), the celebrated Asian American artist known for exploring the sculptural and conceptual possibilities inherent within the medium of ceramics. In this pre-recorded conversation, Aleesa Pitchamarn Alexander, Shino Takeda, Karen Patterson, and Christina Roberts delve into Takaezu’s embrace of new materials during her residency at FWM, the artist’s contributions to the field, and continuing influence. This series of pre-recorded conversations examines the stories of past Artist-in-Residence projects in the collection of The Fabric Workshop and Museum. Led by FWM Curator Karen Patterson, Unpacking Our Stories connects scholars, contemporary artists, and past project coordinators to re-examine the work of celebrated artists and find compelling themes that resonate in the present. fabricworkshopandmuseum.org
