What Nobody Tells You About Panama
If you’ve spent any time researching Panama, you’ve probably heard the same things over and over again. The Panama Canal. The impressive skyline. The US dollar. The territorial tax system. Great banking. A growing digital nomad scene. While all of those things are true, they don’t really tell you what it’s like to wake up here every day and actually live in Panama. After spending the last five months living in Panama City, I’ve learned that there are a lot of things nobody talks about until you’re already here. Some are great, some are surprising, and some are things I wish I had known before moving. In this video, I share my honest experience living in Panama and cover topics that rarely make it into the typical “Top 10 Reasons to Move to Panama” videos. Some of the things I discuss include: • Why Panama City almost feels like two completely different cities depending on which neighborhood you’re in. • Why areas like Bella Vista, Marbella, Punta Paitilla, Punta Pacífica, and Costa del Este feel surprisingly modern and international, while much of the rest of the country has a very different atmosphere. • Whether driving in Panama is actually as stressful as people make it seem. • The reality of traffic, road conditions, and local driving habits. • Internet, cable, and cell phone providers, and what competition looks like in Panama. • The interesting car brands, trucks, and technology that you rarely see in Canada or the United States. • Why Panama is considered one of the safer places in the region when it comes to hurricanes and other natural disasters, along with a few important caveats. • The incredible number of beaches throughout the country, including many that receive very few visitors. • One of the strangest things I’ve discovered in Panama: magnetic black sand. • Why Panama’s geography can be surprisingly confusing, even if you’re normally good with directions. This isn’t a complete guide to moving to Panama, and it’s not meant to convince you that Panama is perfect. Every country has its pros and cons. Instead, my goal is to share the kinds of observations that only come from actually living here. These are the little details that don’t usually appear in travel guides but can make a huge difference in understanding what everyday life is really like. If you’re considering moving to Panama, retiring here, becoming a digital nomad, relocating your business, or simply planning a vacation, I hope this video helps you develop a more realistic picture of the country beyond the postcards and social media highlights.
