Melipona is a genus of apocryphal hymenoptera in the Apidae family, containing some 40 or more species. Its geographic distribution ranges from Argentina to Mexico, passing through Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Peru, Ecuador, Paraguay, and Venezuela, distributed throughout the Neotropical region.
