This is an effective way to use historical or archival images and video in your next documentary project. Documentaries deal with facts, reality, and truths so it can feel like you need to explain everything. Yet when we try to put profound truths in words they often end up sounding cheap. Fighting that urge - and leaving things unsaid - can help the audience connect more emotionally with your story. Here, I use an example from one of my docs to show how I edited archive footage to create wordless stories that have impact. This is a great way to take your audience on a journey and often that brings them far closer to the truth than if tried to explain it to them.
