All the runways will be closed permanently. Only a helicopter base will remain. All the other traffic will be moved to the "new" airport Willy Brandt Berlin Brandenburg International (BER). Berlin Tegel airport was built in 1948. Tegel was very convenient for the traveler: Just a short bus or taxi ride from the city center and you could get from the bus stop to the airplanes in a few minutes. After the closure of Tegel airport and the historic Berlin Tempelhof airport in 2008, Berlin has no airport anymore which is located close to the city center.
