► 'A Leaf in the Storm' is a story of a pregnant rape survivor, Jyoti, who is a refugee of the 1947 partition of India and Pakistan. She was abducted and raped by a group of men while crossing the border and now lives in a refugee camp with other women who have faced similar violence. She struggles with the trauma and the shame of carrying the child of her rapist and decides to abandon the baby after giving birth. However, when she sees the baby, she feels a surge of motherly love and changes her mind. She decides to keep the baby and accept her fate as a leaf in the storm of history. ► ABOUT AUTHORESS : Lalithambika Antharjanam (1909-1987) was a Malayalam writer and social reformer who challenged the patriarchal norms and practices of the Nambudiri Brahmin community in Kerala. She was born in Kottavattom near Punalur, Kollam district, to a conservative family and received only primary education. She married Narayanan Nambudiri, a farmer, in 1926 and lived a secluded life as a housewife. She secretly started writing poems, stories, and essays that exposed the oppression and injustice faced by women in her society. She was influenced by Gandhi's ideals and the social reform movements led by V. T. Bhattathiripad and others. Her most famous work is Agnisakshi (Fire, My Witness), a novel based on her own life that won the Sahitya Akademi Award and the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award in 1977. She also wrote an autobiography, Atmakathaykku Oru Amukham (An Introduction to Autobiography), and several other works that reflect her feminist and humanist vision. She died in 1987 in Njaliyakuzhi, Kottayam district.
