Happy New Year! I hope 2025 is a wonderful year for you and your family. 🎍 As I announced in my video, in 2025 I'll be traveling around the world, spending more money and time than I've ever spent before. I'd be lying if I said I spent 2024 worrying about nothing and just trying to complete my trip. The question I couldn't come to a clear conclusion about until the very end was this: "Is it okay for a housewife to spend so much money when I'll have to spend it on my children's education and the 20 million yen problem in retirement?" I'd been thinking about this every day, but it was the death of actress Miho Nakayama that gave me some direction. I wasn't a fan of hers, but I'd always watched her on TV, a dazzling figure of the same generation. Like her, I knew what might happen to me tomorrow, and if she were to disappear from this world, I'd regret not putting my plan into action. Tomoaki Ogura, who passed away a few days later, also said the following: "I should have traveled abroad while I was still able to move around. Even when I go to a good wine bar, I can't drink freely. If there's something I can do while I'm young, I should do it. Even if I plan to do it in retirement, there are so many things I can't do once I'm old." Raised by the postwar baby boomer generation, I was taught that saving money is not a good idea, but the future is not guaranteed. Money exists to help us face our present selves, not for an uncertain future. Also, although I've had failures in the past, I have a track record of managing my family's finances well, so it's important to believe that I can manage money well in the future as well. This has been a long post, but I hope to find answers to these troubling questions by the end of 2024, and then head out into the world in 2025 with a renewed sense of purpose.
