1990 Margaret River Wave Masters Travel back to November 1990 and experience one of the most memorable surfing events ever held at Main Break, Margaret River. This film has been carefully digitised from an original VHS tape to help preserve an important piece of Australian surfing history before it is lost to time. Unlike modern surf edits, this is the original documentary as it was released on VHS in 1990. It captures far more than just the surfing. It documents the atmosphere, artwork, competitors, interviews, crowds and community that made the Margaret River Wave Masters such a special event. The film opens with a tribute to Creed Barnes, who tragically passed away on the eve of the competition. That tribute has been preserved exactly as it appeared on the original VHS and remains an important part of the history of this event. Throughout the documentary you'll see many of surfing's biggest names of the era, including Wendy Botha, Jodie Cooper, Dave Macaulay and many more, along with some incredible moments that are rarely seen today. It was an innovative idea well ahead of its time and a reminder of how surfers pushed boundaries long before modern technology. This upload is part of an ongoing project to preserve Margaret River's surfing history before old VHS tapes deteriorate beyond recovery. There are countless stories, events and memories stored away on ageing tapes, and I hope sharing them helps keep this incredible chapter of Australian surfing alive for future generations.
