Elvira Roca Barea holds a degree in Classical and Hispanic Philology. She earned her doctorate with a dissertation on medieval rhetoric and has taught language and literature in Spain and the USA. She gives lectures and courses both in Spain and abroad and is a regular contributor to newspapers such as El País, El Mundo, El Español, and ABC. Elvira's research has focused primarily on classical and medieval rhetoric. In 2019, she received the Espasa Essay Prize for her book "Fracasología. España y sus élites desde los afrancesados ​​a nuestros días" (Failureology: Spain and its Elites from the Francophiles to the Present Day). She currently works at the University of Luxembourg. This talk, developed in collaboration with the Peña Flamenca Amigos del Cante (Flamenco Club Friends of Flamenco Singing), addresses the legacy that Spaniards have received from the conquerors of America and is part of the Infosalud program for May 2023. INFOsalud is an initiative of the Caja Rural de León Valladolid Zamora Foundation and aims to provide information on health-related topics and promote healthy habits among citizens.
