The Forgotten Software That Changed Music Forever
In this video we're going back in time to the 1980s to explore the origins of Amiga Music, The Tracker, and The MOD file. We'll also take a look (a deep dive!) at how these mod files are put together to create some of the most iconic music from the 16-bit era. Join me as we delve into this remarkable history. A few corrections: Amiga has a low pass filter not a high pass filter. Also powerpacker support was available in earlier versions of protracker. complications / cmplctns.mod author has now been identified as by Danko / FLT I remember the first time I came across SoundTracker on the Amiga, and was amazed at the music. Having heard it already in games, and now seeing how they could be created I was captivated. What I didn't realise was the crazy situation that had led to 'modern' tracker editors and players. I didn't get my Amiga until the early 1990s and by then all of this had stabilised. Not only the history, we'll take a look at how a Protracker module works, and then a deep dive into why the file are so small for such impressive long songs. If you'd like to see a VERY DETAILED deeper dive into the history then this blog is a real interesting read: https://xavier.borderie.net/blog/2024... I hope you will enjoy this journey with me.
