A little miracle at Berlin Zoo is the sea lion pup Aileen. Two months ago, Aileen's mother, Doro, died from an infection. The sudden death was a devastating blow, as raising a sea lion pup by hand is no easy feat. Now the orphan is four months old and thriving, much to the delight of the zookeepers. In the ape house at the zoo lives one of its oldest residents: gorilla Fatou is a proud 58 years old. An age that gorillas only reach in zoos. However, one of the youngest staff members, trainee Anna-Lea Bensch, is responsible for today's senior citizen activity program. For several years now, animal training has been taken more and more seriously in zoos. This is also true in Berlin. In clicker training, the animals learn to associate the "click!" with a reward. They are conditioned. The timing is crucial. Today, the zookeepers have practical exercises on their agenda. Working in pairs, the keepers reenact the training situation, with one of them playing the animal.
