Laura M. De Gaspari : Gamil Gamal: Divine Rites , London, Sadler's Wells 1989/90

This is my very first performance of Gamil Gamal, from the concert programme 'Divine Rites', created and toured in the UK by avant-guarde artist Suraya Hilal (www.hilaldance.com) in 1989/1990. In posting this video, I also want to show my appreciation and gratitude to choreographer , pioneer and dancer Suraya Hilal, in the first place. She passed me this love for Raqs Sharqi, together with her Company of outstanding musicians, some of whom have died, but whose spirit remains alive in their music. The Company included other dancers whose deep feel for this dance have also inspired me and shaped my dance up to now.
