Additionally, over-styling, braiding hair tightly, or using curling irons can cause mechanical damage and even lead to traction alopecia. Opt for less aggressive techniques to preserve the health of your hair. Which brush is right for your hair? Using brushes with wide teeth and coated with materials like Teflon is ideal for reducing friction, thus preventing damage to the cuticle, the hair's protective layer. Brush your hair gently, choosing brushes with soft bristles and rounded tips. Start at the ends and work your way toward the roots to avoid pulling and minimize damage.
