It serves the Blue and Yellow Lines. The station was opened on July 1, 1977, along with 16 other stations as part of the opening of the 11.8-mile National Airport–Stadium–Armory segment. On April 17, 2016, the Metroway bus rapid transit system was extended to Pentagon City, with the station becoming the northern terminus.
