Have I found true love? The Omeo all terrain wheelchair.

Omeo Technology have developed a wheelchair that works like a Segway. With only two wheels, it takes a little bit of practice for it to become intuitive and an easy ride. There was a brief moment when it felt like I was walking but without any pain. I think that intuitive almost walking-like feeling would increase over time. But OhMe OhMy, it is amazing. You steer with the seat, so it's mostly hands free, meaning I don't have to hold a control with my crappy hands. The constant movement in the lower back and core for balancing and moving means that my body does not get stiff like it would in a mobility scooter or electric wheelchair. It has a really tight turning circle and with only two wheels it is very compact, so can be used indoors or for tight access ways when you're out and about. Two wheels (and you can get wider ones off-road wheels for the beach and tracks) also means that you can pretty much go most places and onto easy walking tracks. It can't do stairs though. I think the Omeo might be true love for me because it will give me: • access to beach walks • a way to walk the puppy even when I'm having a flare • access to easy bush walks with the family • open up my and the family’s world Plus the Omeo is super cool. Another benefit of the Omeo is that it is easy to walk and talk, making it that much easier to build a connection with the person you're walking with. Its also waterproof, so I can use it everyday... because we all know disabled people don't melt and need an all weather mobility device! Omeo Technology is based in my grandparents' home town, Otaki, New Zealand. It's a fantastic NZ success story of a small town business doing amazing innovative things.
