Make a Oil Pump Primer tool... Having fun with this Performance 454 BBC engine build, and the next step is to get the engine ready for its first start. It's a good practice to prime the engine's oiling system before installing it into the car or starting the engine for the first time. I do this for a couple of reasons... to fill up all the oil passageways and oil filter so that you aren't starting it up with no oil, also to see if your engine does build up oil pressure, and also to see (with your valve covers removed) if your top end is getting oiled as well. If this is done while the engine is still on the engine stand, then you have easy access to address any issues that may come up without having to pull the engine back out from the car you just have installed it into...
