Flood watch and severe weather possible, 3-4 inches of rain through Sunday

FOX 17 News has issued a Code Red Weather alert for flooding and severe storms in Middle Tennessee. The primary concern is flash flooding as scattered thunderstorms move through the area. While storms are not expected to be widespread or last all day, any storm that develops could produce torrential downpours, frequent lightning, and localized flooding in a short amount of time. The flash flood risk has increased slightly for both Friday and Saturday. A few strong storms are also possible late Thursday night into early Friday morning, with the greatest chance developing after 1 a.m. Damaging wind gusts are expected to be the main severe weather hazard. In addition, there is a low threat for isolated severe storms Friday afternoon and again Saturday afternoon. While widespread severe weather is not anticipated, a few storms could become strong enough to produce gusty winds.
