‘I LOVE YOU. GOODBYE’ Starmer signs off from politics as Commons erupts in farewell
Keir Starmer delivered an emotional farewell during his final Prime Minister’s Questions, declaring that his political journey had come to an end before receiving a powerful send-off from MPs across the House of Commons. In his final answer from the dispatch box, Starmer reflected on leading Labour from its historic 2019 defeat to its 2024 general election victory, defended his record in government and promised his full support to his successor. He thanked parliamentary staff, civil servants, his political team and Labour MPs who had accompanied him through his time in office. The outgoing Prime Minister ended with a deeply personal message to his wife and children, telling them: “I love you. Goodbye.” MPs rose to cheer as the Speaker marked the end of Starmer’s final PMQs and described it as the farewell that should be given to a departing Prime Minister.
